Liverpool and Napoli former goalkeeper Pepe Reina has disclosed that he would love to have a replay and make up for the crucial 3-0 defeat against Fiorentina in 2018.
The 37-year-old Milan loanee has played six games in the Premier League since his move to Aston Villa in January but admitted that he doesn’t know what will happen after his current deal at Villa Park.
“I’m on loan until June 30, then I still have a year left on my contract at Milan,” he wrote on Instagram. “But you never know in football, right?”
And the former Spain international mostly acknowledged for his contribution at Liverpool during Rafael Benitez’ years at Anfield, has talked about his in both Milan and Napoli.
“At Milan, I bonded with practically all the players,” he wrote on Instagram. “But the thing I miss the most, is the people who works at Milanello.
His former Rossoneri coach Gennaro Gattuso moved to Naples in December and Pepe Reina described him as a “real man”, before claiming that Samu Castillejo was the “nicest” player at Milan.
But when he was asked about what match he would play again, Pepe Reina looks back to a crucial moment in Serie A 2017-18, when Napoli needed three points to catch up with Juventus at the top of Serie A.
“If I could replay a match? Liverpool-Milan in 2007 [the Champions League Final] and Fiorentina-Napoli in 2018.”
Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off during the first ten minutes of the match and Napoli lost 3-0 at the Artemio Franchi and in the ned finished four points behind Juventus in the League.
